Citation:

Sharpe, L. AND T. Newcomer-Johnson. Cleaning Up: Involving Community and Ecology in Remediation Projects (Wildlife Habitat Council). Wildlife Habitat Council's Monthly Webinar, Virtual, November 11, 2020.

Impact/Purpose:

Sharing information on ORD's tools and approaches for incorporating ecosystem service thinking into remediation projects to an interested external audience of companies. The webinar is being hosted by the Wildlife Habitat Council, a group who works to support and certify corporate conservation actions.

Description:

At its core, remediation efforts are designed to protect communities from the impacts of historical contamination through cleanup efforts. Land managers and agencies alike are increasingly recognizing the value of incorporating biodiversity and community considerations into both the cleanup itself as well as the end-use of the land. This webinar will discuss selecting these kinds of beneficial outcomes for remediation sites, featuring a case study of a landfill where both community and ecological considerations are being incorporated into the site’s use.
